Serendipity Arts Festival

Look, Stranger!

A call for film, photo and multimedia submissions

Focus area: South Asia

About

Marking the 90th anniversary of the ground-breaking Film und Foto exhibition in Germany and 100 years of the Bauhaus school, the title theme is inspired by the English poet, W.H Auden’s “Look, Stranger!” (1936).

Candidates invited are across all ages and backgrounds, as this exhibition is a cross-disciplinary opportunity to explore the relationship of the individual to the community and to question our relationship to others/strangers through the documentary and/or experimental form. In continuation of the ideas driving the Young Subcontinent project, this is a specific call to South Asian practitioners or works produced within or about the region, applicants are encouraged to raise awareness around our attachments to a place, people, our own families or even an event, and to address one’s sense of detachment or affiliation.

Using Auden’s title as inspiration, this project invites multiple readings about our own perceptions of others, how they expand our awareness of the world and ways in which spontaneous interactions induce us to communicate in innovative, unorthodox and unexpected ways.

If selected, the project will be included in the Serendipity Arts Festival in December 2019 in Goa.
