Trained in contemporary dance, Raghav Handa draws on his lived experience to create multifaceted, engaging explorations of modern Australian identity. His works challenge cultural and contemporary norms by navigating the “preciousness” & complexities that surround traditional hierarchies and by utilising his heritage to create spaces that foster robust discussion & risk taking – he encourages his audience to come to their own conclusions rather than imposing his own. His creations are novel, engaging and often playful with elements like fire.

Raghav will lead a workshop introducing participants to his creative process and the techniques he uses to build worlds rich in symbolism, surrealist imagery, and sound. Through task work the participants will be invited to draw upon their familial and contemporary narratives to generate material (movement and text) and seamlessly interweave into an abstract setting.

How do you tell anecdotes about your Great Grand Dad and make it relatable to your practice and your audience…now?

Raghav will begin with vocal and physical warm up and teach repertoire from his recent works to provide context and deeper understanding of his approach.

Facilitator: Raghav Handa
