Bring a splash of color to your day and step into the world of Kari-Kalamdani Naqqashi—the exquisite hand-painted art of Kashmiri papier-mâché. Guided by master artisan Maqbool Jan, this workshop introduces you to the layering and detailing techniques that give this craft its timeless beauty.

Using small, heart-shaped papier-mâché bases, participants will learn basic Kashmiri motifs, how to build up layers of paint, and how to add delicate details that make each piece come alive. It’s a joyful dive into pattern, patience, and color—where every brushstroke connects you to Kashmir’s artistic heritage.

By the end, you’ll take home your own hand-painted keepsake—a tiny heart glowing with your creativity and a touch of Kashmiri charm.

Please note that all materials will be provided by the artisan.

This workshop is a part of Sandeep Sangaru’s curation, Hands, Tools, and the Living Thread: From Kashmiri Craft Ateliers.

Facilitator: Maqbool Jan
