Did you know how deeply modern Western jazz was shaped and influenced by Indian classical music? And did you know how the sound of the modern jazz saxophone was deeply inspired by the sound of the Indian shehnai? The finest shehnai-player of his generation, Ashwani Shankar, Grammy-awarded Danish saxophone player Lars Møller, and rising tabla star Zuheb Ahmed Khan will tell you a story in words and music about the long love-affair between the two genres.

The meeting between Indian and Western music since the 1950s will be demonstrated with examples from the American and Scandinavian/Nordic jazz tradition illustrating how the sound of the jazz saxophone was profoundly transformed with inspiration from India. The Live Demo & Dialogue is open for all with an interest in music and cross-cultural artistic innovation.

Artists: Lars Møller, Ashwani Shankar, Zuheb Ahmed Khan
