There Are No Love Letters Here is a project documenting and re-imagining Cowasji's family history through the material objects and the family lore passed on through generations. Using inter-generational archives, oral history traditions, her almost 200-year-old ancestral home along with its possessions that speak to the lives of all those who have passed through it; this work is her attempt to make this abundance of history live on in some way, as well as to tackle the burden of ones ancestry and complex family archive.

In this act of remembrance, Cowasji uses her own body to perform the characters embodied by her grandparents, grand aunts and many other figures in her extended family. Deploying self-portraiture, and often adorned with clothes or accessories left to her by those who have passed, Cowasji weaves new fictions in which her own identity becomes enmeshed with those who came before her. And though specific to her Parsi-Indian heritage, this is also a universal tale of family and connection, the desire to be remembered, and the ultimate faltering and failing of human memory.
